Gone

Album Cover

Verse

There was a bomb so big in the USA, it was built in Manhattan

On the 6th of August '45, it blew with the power of a thousand suns

Absurdly named the Little Boy it was tested on the sand

The explosion louder than the cries of the target in the land of the rising sun

Chorus

And they were gone, gone in a flash

They were people just like you and me, but taken oh so fast

And they were gone, for want of gain

Taken from this world to prove a point in a rich man's game

Verse

Well in Hiroshima one Monday morn, all the people on their way

Sailing through the air so high was a plane they called Enola Gay

It was bombs away and the plane went fraying, distant to the blast

Then a blinding light sent a lasting sight that would leave the world aghast

Chorus

And they were gone, gone in a flash

They were people just like you and me, but taken oh so fast

And they were gone, for want of gain

Taken from this world to prove a point in a rich man's game

Verse

The aftermath of the deadly blast destroyed everything in sight

A mushroom cloud so very big, it turned the sunny daylight into night

A toxic cloud of poisonous dust, it filled the sky with fear

And just like that a community lost of the damage that was caused they had no idea

Chorus

And they were gone, gone in a flash

They were people just like you and me, but taken oh so fast

And they were gone, for want of gain

Taken from this world to prove a point in a rich man's game

Bridge

Three days later the Fat Man dropped, another eighty thousand dead

The final fate of the Nagasaki people horrific and widespread

For many months more, more civilians died due to sickness and the fire

But the human loss was justified by the leaders at the top and their sick desire

Verse

Another eighty years we have lived in fear of the button being pressed

Nine more countries have the biggest bombs, twelve thousand deadline war-heads at best guess

Do we need this power in a few rich hands, to repeat this deadly war?

Do we really want to leave this legacy for our children to inherit for evermore?

Chorus

And they were gone, gone in a flash

They were people just like you and me, but taken oh so fast

And they were gone, for want of gain

Taken from this world to prove a point in a rich man's game
