BROKEN NATION (EP)

Our debut EP landed in 2023 - a coming of age moment, marking a milestone in our transition from a festival cover-band into a fully fledged performer of more and more original material (although we do pay tribute to our wonderful friends Headsticks here, who kindly gave us permission to include our version of their amazing Cold Grey English Skies in this collection of five songs).

This was recorded at Riff Factory in Stoke on Trent, and mixed and mastered by Tom Carter. The line up of the band was slightly different to now, with Gary Clarke providing Fiddle before Ellie joined the band, otherwise you'll find Russ on vocals, Warren on guitar and backing vocals, Jamie on Mandolin and Jim on drums.

Alan had joined the band by the time the EP was being prepared but being brand new (to both the band, and bass) it's actually Warren playing bass on the recordings.

With more original songs making it into our sets, thoughts turned to a debut album early in 2024. We decided quickly not to just augment EP tracks and make it a collection of completely new songs, and the writing process has been a genuine team effort - with everyone contributing combinations of lyrics, melodies and arrangements which we've honed during rehearsals and live performances over the last year and a half.

Once ready and pared down, the 12 songs we wanted to include were recorded at a mixture of Ellie's studio in Nottinghamshire (aka Darwin's HQ) and at Riff Factory in Stoke on Trent again with musical wizard Tom Carter.
​
On this release we have Russ on vocals, Warren providing acoustic guitar and backing vocals, Ellie on electric guitar, backing vocals and lead vocals on Valkyrie's Lament, Jamie on Mandolin, Jim on drums and Alan on bass.
​
We launched the album to a sell-out gig at Nottingham's Rough Trade venue, which was a massive thrill, with support from our good friends Shanks' Pony.
